Ambassador Celebrates Special Olympics Greece and the Athens 2011 Games

February 14, 2008

On February 14, Ambassador Speckhard hosted a luncheon in honor of the Greek Special Olympics Committee and the Goodwill Ambassadors, who had just received awards from Karolos Papoulias, Greece’s President of the Republic, for their work in promoting the committee’s good work.  In his comments to the press, Ambassador Speckhard congratulated Ioanna Desmotopoulou, President of the Greek Special Olympics committee and the Goodwill Ambassadors, and said “I am so happy that [the 2011 Special Olympics] will be hosted in Greece, the birthplace of the Olympics and that the U.S… the birthplace of the Special Olympics… is a partner in this effort.”  President of the Greek Parliament, Sioufas, and Lee Todd, Chief of the Special Olympics World Games, were also on hand.
