U.S. - Greek Consultations on Iran
On July 28, the U.S. Permanent Representative to the United Nations in Vienna, Ambassador Greg Schulte, visited Athens for consultations on Iran and its nuclear ambitions. “The goal of the United States, a goal we share with Greece, is to reach a diplomatic settlement,” he told officials, academics, and journalists.
Ambassador Schulte was received by Secretary General Agathokles Aristides and other senior Greek officials at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in the morning. He was accompanied by U.S. Ambassador to Athens Daniel V. Speckhard.
Later in the day, Ambassador Schulte spoke to academic audiences at two of the top think tanks in Athens, ELIAMEP and the Institute of International Relations, and granted an exclusive interview to SKAI TV.
The American envoy to the United Nations explained U.S. support for the choice recently presented to the Iranian government by EU Foreign Policy Chief Javier Solana in Geneva: to cooperate with the international community or face additional sanctions and deepening isolation. A further response from the Iranian side is expected soon.
