Replacing Lost or Stolen Passports
Step 1 - Report the loss/theft to the local police and obtain a police report. This can take a few days, so please plan accordingly. The police department may ask for the number of your passport. If you call our office, we can assist in locating this passport number. In addition you will need to apply in person at the Embassy with the following:

Step 3 - Proof of citizenship - One or more of the following:
- previously issued U.S. passport
- original U.S. birth certificate or copy certified by the issuing authority
- Naturalization Certificate, if you obtained citizenship through naturalization
- Consular Report (or certification) of Birth Abroad of a Citizen of the United States of America
Proof of Identity – One or more of the following:
- Proof of Identity – One or more of the following:
- a valid driver's license with photograph;
- a national identity card with photograph;
- a U.S. military I.D. card
Passport Photographs
Please submit two identical, recent color photos (taken within the last six months), 5cm x 5cm with a white background.
U.S. passport photographs are different from Greek passport photographs and many Greek photographers are not familiar with U.S. photo specifications. We strongly recommend that you print out the photo requirements for U.S. passports
and take them to the photographer. Photographs that do not meet the specified requirements will be rejected. Vending machine photographs and photographs printed on a home computer are unacceptable.
A photographer is available at the Embassy from 8:30 a.m. – 12:00 noon. Photographs cost 10€ for 4 . Please see below the photo shops near the Embassy where photos can be obtained.
