U.S. Embassy and Greek All-Stars Participate in Charity Softball Game
September 30, 2006 Several hundred spectators gathered Saturday at the Olympic Baseball Stadium for a charity softball game on behalf of Greek charity Kivotos. The match between U.S. Embassy players and the Greek All-Stars-a team that included Greek Olympic and National Team players-was organized by the American Women of Greece in an effort to raise funds for the charity's new home. In a surprise reversal of last month's World Cup basketball championships, the underdog U.S. team prevailed over the Greek team by a final score of 9-5, but all involved agreed the real winner was Kivotos, for whom the American Women raised several thousand Euros. Both teams expressed interest in making the game a yearly tradition.
