Consul General Visits Children with Special Needs
On December 23, Thessaloniki Consul General Yee visited the Center for Children with Special Needs at Sidirokastro, a remote village in the northern province of Serres, near the Greek-Bulgarian border. Consul General Yee met with the local administrator and doctors to present gifts donated by the Consulate staff for the children. The Consulate and American volunteers began visiting this center (which houses about 60 mentally disabled children) five years ago. The Consul General's comments to the local media stress the American tradition of volunteerism and assistance to the less fortunate.
