Veterans Day: A Time of Remembrance, Honor

On November 11, Deputy Chief of Mission Thomas M. Countryman spoke at the U.S. Retirees Association Veterans Day celebration hosted by the American College in Greece in honor of veterans from Greece, America, and all over the world. Veterans Day became a federal holiday in 1971 to honor our war veterans and give thanks for peace. On this day, as DCM Countryman said, “We have the duty to do more to teach this generation and the next one about obligations they may have to take up, about duties that they have as citizens, whether in Greece or in the United States or in any of the other freedom-loving countries in the world.”
