PLATFORMA VIDEO8 International Film Festival
Athens (October 27, 2008) -- The PLATFORMA VIDEO8 International Film Festival will be held November 7-10, 2008 at the Technopolis in Gazi, under U.S. Embassy auspices and in cooperation with the City of Athens.
This year’s festival features two competitions. The winner of Platforma Selection will be one of 20 fiction, documentary and animated films from around the world. Awarded by an international jury, the winner will receive the PLATFORMA VIDEO8 Grand Prize. The Audience Prize competition involves viewers with 90 video films of all lengths and genres, including experimental works. Following each screening, the audience will be asked to vote for its favorite film in a specially-formatted ballot space.
In addition to these competitions, a series of tributes and presentations by local and international independent film festival representatives are part of PLATFORMA VIDEO8. An Eye on Israel is a tribute which includes screenings of significant contemporary Israeli films, as well as parallel cultural events and activities. Anthropos is a tribute dedicated to ethnographic documentary, or films created in anthropology. Finally, Nuclei promotes digital audiovisual works.
