Mosaiko.gr Sponsors “New Media, New Content” Conference
(Athens, September 17, 2009) – Mosaiko.gr, the U.S. Embassy’s youth-oriented website, is sponsoring an international conference entitled “New Media, New Content” organized by the Hellenic Audiovisual Institute and the University of Athens Media Department on Wednesday, October 7, 2009 at the Press Center of the Secretariat General of Communication – Secretariat General of Information (11 Fragoudi & Al. Pantou, Kallithea).
Eric Schwartzman, New Media Guru from Los Angeles, Matthew McAllister from Penn State University, Zizi Papacharissi, Professor and Department Head from Chicago University, Jay David Bolter from Georgia Institute of Technology and Patricia Aufderheide, Director of the Center for Social Media at the American University in Washington D.C. will address the four conference sessions with Greek academics and professionals.
This international full-day conference is open to the Greek public on a first come first served basis. The speakers will lead four sessions on: New Media Platforms and Content, The Changing Face of Content, Social Networks, and All About Content. This conference is trying to explore the ways in which new media have penetrated people’s lives on a communication level.
The speakers will try to explore the old content providers and how they are attempting to adjust to the new conditions. They will address the changes in the news media and journalism in an era where new blogs, written by ordinary people, emerge almost on a daily basis, and newspaper sales are decreasing on a constant basis. They will discuss the ways in which new content is created and produced, especially in a period when it can so easily be created by the consumers themselves, who are taking on a new role in this digital landscape.
Μosaiko.gr is a website dedicated to the interconnection of the cultures of Greece and America. From the arts to technology, sports to education and new media, Greeks and Americans have created a network of ties–a mosaic of ties–that enlighten, teach, enliven, and change the world in positive ways.
