Winter Nights Full of Jazz

January 24, 2006

The Agora Latin Jazz Quartet, a cutting edge jazz group, will make its debut appearance in Athens with two performances on February 4 and 7. The ensemble was selected in 2005 from among some fifty jazz groups to represent American jazz music throughout the world as “Jazz Ambassadors,” and is coming to Greece with the support of the American Embassy.

On February 4, at 11:15 p.m., the Agora Latin Jazz Quartet will perform at Bar Guru Bar’s “Jazz Upstairs” lounge. On February 7, at 8:30 p.m., the group will perform at the Hellenic American Union’s Auditorium.

Band leader Clay Ross and the other talented musicians of the Agora Quartet, Scott Kettner (percussion), Nate Shaw (piano), and Solomon Dorsey (bass), are experienced jazz players with influences from Afro-Caribbean music. Their virtuosity is evident both in the soft melodies as well as in the powerful improvisations of the band. The group has a passionate, unique and personal music style that moves their audience.

Bar Guru Bar http://www.bargurubar.gr/ is located at 10 Theatrou Square, in Psirri. Tickets for the February 4 performance are 10 euros. For more information, call 210-324-6530.
