Welcome to the Passport & Citizenship Unit of the U.S. Embassy Athens.  We are open for appointments Monday to Friday 9:00 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. The Unit is closed to the public on U.S. and Greek Holidays and the last Wednesday of each month.  Please note that there is no walk-in service for American citizens who require services related to passport and birth registration.  These services are done by appointment only. One appointment is required per person. Please plan to arrive 15 minutes before your scheduled appointment with the required forms completed.   Applicants who are late for the appointment will be asked to reschedule for another day.

Special Note on Passport Applications

Applicants must fully complete all mandatory questions on the entire passport application in English.  No mandatory question can be left blank.  Embassy staff cannot assist applicants to complete their forms in accordance with Department regulation.  Incomplete forms will be rejected and accordingly, will delay passport processing.  Should you need assistance filing out a form, please call the passport unit at (0030) 210-720-2494/2464 from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. Monday through Friday. Please note, the Consular section is closed on the last Wednesday of each month and on U.S. and Greek Holidays 

Processing time and delivery
Processing time is approximately a week to 10 days from the day of application.  Passports may be picked up from 9:00 to 12:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.  The Unit is closed to the public on U.S. and Greek Holidays and the last Wednesday of each month.  If it is not possible for you or someone designated by you to pick up your passport, please bring or send a pre-paid envelope for registered mail which you must purchase from a local post office (ELTA).  Alternatively, your passport may be returned to you by courier, payable by on the day of application if you apply in person, or upon delivery if you apply by mail.
