Lost/Stolen Non-U.S. Passport with Valid Visa

If your passport containing a valid U.S. visa is lost or stolen, you are required to report the loss or theft to the Embassy.  Please send either email athensconsul@state.gov or fax it at 210 725 3025 to the Non-immigrant Visa Unit with the following information:

  • Your full name, date and place of birth;
  • The number and nationality of the lost or stolen passport if available;
  • The type of visa held and date and place of issuance if available;
  • Report from Police Station, Embassy, Consulate or other Authorities.

Note:  Once you have reported your passport as lost or stolen we will not be able to amend your record should you find the passport.

Therefore, please ensure that your passport is not lying in a drawer somewhere before you submit the report.

Nonimmigrant Visa Holders

In case you have not reported your passport lost/stolen please go to the local police station and report your document(s) as lost or stolen. You will be issued a police report detailing the incident.  Don’t forget to make an extra copy of the report for your own records.

If your passport is ever recovered, it can no longer be used for travel to the United States, including registering under ESTA. Once you have obtained a new passport, you may apply for a new visa, if required. If you are eligible to travel visa free, you will not be required to replace the visa.

If you choose to apply for a new visa, you will need to present the police report before a new visa will be issued.

If you choose to travel under the Visa Waiver Program please make sure that you will either fax or send it to our office by e-mail.
