During one of the coldest spells in Athens this winter, the Embassy community collected hundreds of blankets, sheets and coats as well as toiletries and food items for the homeless.  Working with the NGO Klimaka which operates residential care shelters across the country, Embassy volunteers transported and organized Mission donations and spent the evening serving dinner to the more than 90 homeless men and women who had gathered at the shelter.

A recent press article reported that 50% more families in Greece are seeking help from charities compared to just two years ago – one of the repercussions of the economic crisis.
