Job Opportunities
The Department of State is still actively recruiting for FS specialists. Some people overseas are unaware that there are open-ended vacancy announcements for OMSs and IMSs, as well as other specialties. The Internet site is: http://www.state.gov/aboutstatedepartment/
Foreign Service Officer Selection Process Has Changed
The first step to become a Foreign Service Officer is to take the Foreign Service Test, which traditionally has been offered in April. We are, however, moving to automate the process and make it computer based. Registration/application for the test has not yet begun. We will be posting information on when and how to register/apply for the computer-based test once the timing of the new process is finalized. We have not, as yet, identified the testing locations. That information will be available at Registration. If you have not already done so, please sign up for the email updates. For the latest information, visit careers.state.gov. Then, under "Foreign Service Officer News, click on "Our Foreign Service Officer Selection Process has Changed. Find Out How." There, you will find general information and the link to sign up for email updates. At the bottom of the general information section, click on "The Foreign Service Officer Selection Process." For information on the four parts of the process, click on the four parts listed.
