Ambassador Hosts Iftar in Celebration of Ramadan
On September 9, Ambassador and Dr. Speckhard hosted an Iftar dinner in honor of the Muslim holy month of Ramadan for religious leaders, ambassadors and diplomats stationed in Greece, government officials, and NGO leaders. Guests included Muslim community leaders, a representative of the Orthodox Church, the Nomarch of Athens, and members of the press. In welcoming remarks, the Ambassador described the importance of mutual respect and friendship between people from all countries and of all faiths. His Excellency Ahmed Benyamina of the Embassy of Algeria underscored the importance of seeing beyond religious differences, and Father Thomas Synodinos expressed his hope for peace, love and respect between all residents of Greece.
