Non-Immigrant Visas

General Information

All persons traveling to the USA require a visa except some travelers who are citizens of 27 countries which participate in the Visa Waiver Program and who have machine-readable passports. Please refer to http://travel.state.gov for more information about the VWP. Citizens of Greece require a visa at this time.

If your passport containing a valid visa has expired, you may travel with two passports - your expired passport containing the valid U.S. visa and your unexpired passport.  Please ensure that the spelling of your name and your date of birth are exactly the same in the old and new passports.  If there is even a slight difference, you may need to re-apply for a visa to be put in your new passport.

For more information on applying for a visa, you may use this web site, send an e-mail to athensconsul@state.gov, or call one of the following numbers:

Only from OTE land-line subscribers at: 90-11-230-730

Subscribers to other phone companies will be unable to reach this number.

From mobile phones:

Cosmote: 901-200-6313
Vodafone: 901-694-6313
WIND: 901-160-6313

The call center, which provides services to the non-immigrant visa applicant, will accept phone calls from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. every day except Greek holidays. A small fee will apply for these phone calls, but the center guarantees that every call will be answered in three rings or less. The charge will be 1.19 euro per minute for landline phone calls and 1.52 euro per minute for mobile phone calls.

Dual Citizens

Dual citizens (people who have U.S. citizenship and another citizenship, such as Greek) must enter the USA with a U.S. passport. If you are a U.S. citizen or think you might be, contact the passport unit at 210 720 2494 to obtain or renew a passport.

Children of U.S. Citizens

If you or your spouse is a U.S. citizen, and are bringing your child to apply for a U.S. visa with a Greek passport, please contact the Passport Section of the Consular Section in advance of your visa appointment to determine if the child is eligible for U.S. citizenship.  A visa will not be issued to an individual who is eligible for U.S. citizenship, or who has yet to determine their eligibility.  For more information, or to schedule an appointment to determine your child’s eligibility for US citizenship, please call 210-720-2494.  You may also click here to see the “Reports of Birth Abroad” under the US Citizens Services Section for more information.
