You will bring all required documents with you on the day of the formal visa interview.
After your Applicant Statement is received, the Consulate will complete all necessary administrative processing of your immigrant visa application. You may be requested to provide additional information if you have incomplete or are missing documents.
Approximately one month before your scheduled interview appointment with a consular officer, you will receive an appointment letter containing the date and time of your visa interview along with instructions for obtaining a medical examination and the vaccination requirements.
- If visa class has numerical limitations, the invitation letter will only be sent once your numbers are available. See the latest Visa Bulletin to determine when your numbers may be available.
Note: The Consulate cannot guarantee how long it may be before you are scheduled for an appointment for a visa interview. Please notify us if the circumstances of your application have changed:
- Change of address;
- Change of marital status;
- Death of petitioner; or
- Birth of adoption of additional children

You should now have all your documents gathered and have already sent the DS-3032 to the NVC.
Note: This is just an informational section to give you an overview of the NVC work process and what they require.
On receipt of the DS-3032, the NVC will mail the "agent" or visa applicant instructions on the steps which must be taken to apply for the immigrant visa.
These steps include:
1. Paying the visa processing fee.
- The NVC which will provide detailed information on method of payment.
After the NVC has received confirmation of payment, they will then request that the required documentation be completed.
To be completed by the visa applicant:
- DS-230 (PDF 175.4KB), Application for Immigrant Visa and Alien Registration
- DS-2001, Applicant's Declaration of Qualification for Immigrant Visa Interview
To be completed by the American Citizen or Legal Permanent Resident petitioner:
- I-864, Affidavit of Support
A processing fee may be applicable for this form. If so, this form will not be sent until the processing fee payment is confirmed.
After the forms are completed, it is now time to mail all required documentation to the National Visa Center. This includes:
- DS-230
- DS-2001
- All collected documentation listed under [Step 4: Gather Required Documentation].
Once all forms are received, the NVC will conduct any additional processing required and forward your file to the Immigrant Visa Section at the Athens U.S. Consulate.
- If you don’t reside in Athens your file will be forwarded to the Embassy/Consulate having jurisdiction over your place of residence.
Once your file has been received at the Immigrant Visa Section and all administrative processing is completed, you will receive an invitation letter for the visa interview at the Consulate.
- If visa class has numerical limitations, the invitation letter will only be sent once your numbers are available. See the latest Visa Bulletin to determine when your numbers may be available.
