Demonstrations
The following demonstrations will take place on Tuesday, December 1, 2009 as follows:
• 11:00 STAGE employees (EU subsidized work experience acquisition program) will demonstrate at Syntagma Square. A pre-assembly will take place at Kotzia Square (downtown) at 10:00 hrs. Group will march to Syntagma Square and the Ministry of Interior (15 Vas. Sophia Ave).
• 18:30 Various leftist organizations will demonstrate in front of the Athens university (Propylea area; Panepistimiou Avenue) and make their way towards the U.S. Embassy. Demonstration will include anti-war and anti-OSCE groups.
Demonstrations take place in Greece regularly in response to world events or local developments. We remind American citizens that even demonstrations intended to be peaceful can turn confrontational and possibly escalate into violence. American citizens are therefore urged to avoid the areas of demonstrations if possible, and to exercise caution if within the vicinity of any demonstrations. American citizens should stay current with media coverage of local events and be aware of their surroundings at all times.
