Black History Month Celebration
On February 27, the American Corner at the Hellenic American Union in Athens held an event honoring Black History Month. An interactive lecture was given in English and Greek in which students were taught about prominent African American figures who have been essential to the civil rights movement in the United States. The students participating in the lecture were given the opportunity to read both English and Greek text while learning more about the celebration of Black History Month. This year the theme for Black History month was “Carter G. Woodson and the Origins of Multiculturalism.” Carter Woodson was an eminent African American author and historian.
