Art in Embassies at the Jefferson House

U.S. Embassy Athens participates in the State Department’s Art in Embassies Program. Established in 1964, this program acts as a global museum exhibiting original works of American art in the public rooms of approximately 180 American diplomatic residences worldwide.  The program embodies the philosophy that the freedom and power of art help build mutual understanding and ties between peoples and countries in ways that transcend distance, cultural differences and borders.

The exhibition at the Jefferson House, the official Residence of the U.S. Ambassador to Greece, consists of paintings and wall-mounted sculptures by nine artists, including well-known Greek-American artist Peter Calaboyias, Andrea Geller, Janis Goodman, Betsy Stewart, Russ Vogt, Michael Schulteis, Kari Minnick, Sandy Walker and Jennifer Wildermuth.
